Meet the Artist

We Are Art Too

Hello! My name is Asheley Sylvestre and I am a visual artist whose work celebrates the beauty, strength, and complexity of Black womanhood. Through vibrant colors and expressive imagery, I explore themes of identity, resilience, and representation, challenging the narratives that often overlook or diminish Black women’s experiences. Rooted in a deep love for authenticity and empowerment, I create art that uplifts and honors the richness of Black culture while inspiring others to see the beauty in every shade of humanity.
Growing up, I never really saw a representation of Black people in a positive light. At a young age I wished I saw more Black woman represented on tv shows, movies, makeup campaigns, or holding executive jobs to show how beautiful and powerful we are. Due to the lack of such representation, I did not feel empowered as a young Black girl. My mission is to represent us through the creation of art because...we are art too! I also want to collaborate with other artists and organizations to spread such positivity so our young Black girls can see how beautiful they are.
